Internet Advent Calendar, Day 2: Favorite Christmas Movie

Christmas Movie

Christmas movies; everyone has a favorite! But, naturally, I couldn’t possibly narrow mine down to just ONE Christmas movie. There are so many great Christmas movies out there, and this list would be SO LONG if I didn’t limit myself to the three that I love to watch every year.

Favorite Christmas Movies

Elf (2003), dir. Jon Favreau

I have always thought that this Will Ferrell comedy is severely underrated, however I have always been pleasantly surprised by the number of people I know who actually really love Elf as much as I do! I feel like Elf mixes in all of the slapstick elements you expect in a Christmas movie, while still managing to incorporate some more mature concepts when Buddy travels all the way from the North Pole to New York City to meet his birth father. Overall, this is just a funny, sweet, and all-around great Christmas movie.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), dir. John Hughes

This might be a little bit controversial, but I actually prefer Home Alone 2: Lost in New York over the first one! Don’t get my wrong, Home Alone is classic and I will never not love it, but the added New York characters is what gets me every time! How can anyone resist Tim Curry playing a hotel manager that has to take orders from a ten year-old Macaulay Culkin? No one, that’s who!

The Grinch (2000), dir. Ron Howard

I gotta admit, I love Jim Carrey and The Grinch is no exception. I’ve always really admired his ability to step into the characters he plays, but I really believe that he is the Grinch in this movie! I really hope this movie never gets remade because it is perfect the way it is. Ron Howard did a fabulous job directing, the production value is absolutely incredible, and it’s one of those movies that I feel I will never be able to hate on. Also, Taylor Momsen (Little J/Jenny from Gossip Girl!!) is ADORABLE as Cindy Lou Who, so it doesn’t get much better than that!

See you tomorrow for Day 3!
