Yes indeed, spring has most definitely sprung! I’ve been enjoying the sporadic sun showers just as much as any frizzy-haired girl can, and before the weather gets even hotter I figured it was high time for an update.
Sync Up Cinema
During the month of April in the run up to Sync Up Cinema (the film industry conference my job hosts annually) I was quite the busy bee. Since I am the in-house graphic designer for NOVAC, all of the print materials for the event were my responsibility. Frankly, the task was a daunting one, however I must admit that I am incredibly pleased with the finished result. It was my first time designing a 16 page program, a 6-foot tall pop-up banner, as well as all of the branding for the conference, but it was equal parts fun and stressful! I learned so much about designing on a large scale and how to create a cohesive design.
New Spring ‘Do
Since last month was so hectic, I’m really relishing the down time I’ve had so far in May. I even treated myself to a (long overdue) hair cut at the Paris Parker Aveda salon! Seriously, that was probably the swankiest salon of which I have ever had the pleasure of getting my hair cut, and I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment for your next trim. The atmosphere was luxurious and relaxing, and Amanda, my hairdresser, did an incredible job on my locks. Definitely going back to this place.
Sleepy Mountain
If you have seen those Breaking Bad cufflinks/earrings, then you may have heard of the etsy shop Sleepy Mountain. The woman behind the super-cute pop culture creations is actually a friend of mine from high school! When I found this little package in the mail, I was so overwhelmed that my fiancé had surprised me with an assortment of Wes Anderson-related goodies. There are so many fantastic items in the Sleepy Mountain etsy store from shows like Parks & Recreation, Bob’s Burgers, Breaking Bad, The X-Files, Arrested Development, Seinfeld, The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Freaks and Geeks, and Dexter, as well as movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore, American Psycho, Scott Pilgrim, and Star Wars. Basically, Sleepy Mountain is the perfect place to pick up a gift for someone who loves pop culture-related jewelry!
April Showers Bring May Flowers
I’ve convinced myself that I simply do not have a green thumb, and yet for some reason I can’t stop trying to grow things. Well, I guess my luck has finally changed! I bought these two little “grow your own” kits from Target for $1 a piece and I’m pleasantly surprised that both my sunflowers and my poppies have already started to sprout! I picked them up on a whim because I figured if they were duds I wouldn’t be too upset that I had wasted a couple of bucks on a gimmick. It’s been 3 days since I planted the seeds and they’re already beginning to grow! Now let’s just hope that I don’t mess it up from here.
I think I’ve prattled on long enough. My next post will be some of my current faves for fast and flawless makeup, so check back soon! Until next time…
